Many-body expansion methods
16-20 November
Interdisciplinary workshop on tensor decompositions in polynomially-scaling many-body expansion methods
Organizers: T. Duguet (CEA DRF DPhN), M. Frosini (CEA DES IRESNE SPRC), M. Lesiuk (Dpt of Chemistry, Univ. of Warsaw), L. Zurek (CEA DAM SPhN).
Goals of the project
1. bring together nuclear theorists, quantum chemists, and applied mathematicians to share knowledge and experience with various tensor decomposition formats and their usefulness in their respective disciplines;
2. facilitate the transfer of “best practices” between disciplines and accelerate the adoption and unification of tensor decompositions where similar quantities are encountered in different disciplines;
3. evaluate the accuracy vs. efficiency trade-offs of different formats, e.g. HOSVD [Higher-order singular value decomposition] vs. CPD [canonical polyadic decomposition], across disciplines;
4. identify the “next frontier”, e.g. moving from static tensor decomposition to adaptive tensor methods that evolve the ranks during the calculation.
